Poushali in Mandila Nartan
A traditional item
Solo performance - This is a performance of Manipuri items composed by Guru Bipin Singh like Mridu Uddhata Krishna Nartan, Anangakshep, Tanum, etc, as well as experimental compositions on contemporary themes, like Crossroads, a dancer's effort to integrate her two personae. For this performance a group of 4 people is required - one dancer and three musicians. The other option, though not a good one, is to perform on recorded music in which case it's a team of two people - one dancer and one backstage assitant.

Duet performance - This is of two types, duet with another Manipuri dancer or a duet with an Odissi, Mohiniattam or Kathak dancer . Here, it will be a team of 6, two dancers and four musicians. The Manipuri-Odissi combine includes items like Mangalacharan, Vipralabdha Nayika, Ras & Pallavi. This is an interesting performance since the fusion of two dance styles provides a new perspective.

A break in friendship
A scene from Sama: The Harmony of Life
Group performance - This is of two types too, Manipuri group of 4 dancers and three musicians or Manipuri and another dance style combined of 6 dancers and four musicians. This will again be a mix of traditional and experimental compositions, solo, duet and group choreography. A fusion choreography of Maharas has already been performed all over India with great success. A new fusion production titled 'Sama - The Harmony of Life' which talks about the essential similarity of human nature across the world in spite of the existence of different languages, religions and communities has been staged recently with great success.

These performances explore the full possibilities of Manipuri Dance, with a special character introduced by the use of movements from Thang-Ta, the Manipuri Martial Arts as well as Laiharaoba and Cholom styles.

The programme length can be from 1 hr to 2 hrs depending on the requirements of the organisers.
